In 2016, conductor Oksana Lyniv founded the Youth Symphony of the Ukraine in her home country and brought together the country's best young musicians. The war has scattered the members, aged between 12 and 22, across many countries, but has not been able to interrupt the activity of the ensemble, which has quickly become internationally known. To support the youth orchestra in its work, members of the orchestra joined forces with musicians from the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin for a benefit concert entitled "Wilni - Die Freien". Under the direction of Oksana Lyniv and Sir Donald Runnicles, works by Mozart, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Puccini and others are on the programme in the Gedächtniskirche, as well as the world premiere of the commissioned composition "Nachtgebet" by Evgeni Orkin. The programme will be moderated by rbb journalist Petra Gute and under the patronage of Joachim Gauck, former Federal President of Germany.
