For over twenty years, the Götz Friedrich Prize has been one of the most important awards for young opera directors. This year, the jury selected three prize-winners, who will be presented at the award ceremony at the Deutsche Oper Berlin on 21 February at 7 pm. The main prize of 7,500 euros goes to Anna Katharina Bernreitner for her production of Wolfgang Rihm's PROSERPINA, a production of Neue Oper Wien at Theater Akzent. The special prize of the Zurich Opera House goes to Maximilian Berling for Gian Carlo Menotti's DAS MEDIUM at Munich's Gärtnerplatztheater, and Franziska Angerer is also awarded for her video work on Christian Jost's version of Schumann's "Dichterliebe". The award-winning works will be presented in the Rangfoyer of the Deutsche Oper with video excerpts and in conversation with the prize-winners. The prize will be awarded by Andreas Homoki, Director of the Zurich Opera House.
The evening will also be dedicated to the memory of Kammersängerin Karan Armstrong. In conversation with director Martin G. Berger, who will moderate the evening, Clemens Bieber, Andion Fernandez and André Schmitz will remember Götz Friedrich's widow, who died in 2021 and who, as an important singer-actress, played a major role in shaping the era of his directorship.
We cordially invite you to this evening!
