Two hours and forty minutes lasted the actual sinking of the Titanic in 1912, previously celebrated as a marvel of technology, as the incarnation of progress, and even today this steamer goes down sinks again and again. Hans Magnus Enzensberger describes this sinking in thirty-three cantos at different times between 1912 and 1978, when the author finished the text. Likewise, the places change: Berlin, Havana, where the author had spent a few months in the late 1960s.

The comedy is just as much a ghost ship, which, like the sinking Titanic, travels through the decades and continues to sail - until today.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with the NRWKULTURsekretariat.
