Two hours and forty minutes lasted the actual sinking of the Titanic in 1912, previously celebrated as a marvel of technology, as the incarnation of progress, and even today this steamer goes down sinks again and again. Hans Magnus Enzensberger describes this sinking in thirty-three cantos at different times between 1912 and 1978, when the author finished the text. Likewise, the places change: Berlin, Havana, where the author had spent a few months in the late 1960s, and on the various decks of the Titanic, which separated the social classes on the ship and thus the chances of getting on one of the lifeboats.

The comedy is just as much a ghost ship, which, like the sinking Titanic, travels through the decades and continues to sail - until today.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with the NRWKULTURsekretariat.
